Education Reform in France Uses Student Contracts and Support Programs to Reduce Dropout

Principles and Methods of the Education Priorities Policy (in French), National Ministry of Education, France (March 30, 2006).

This document outlines policies under the Education Priorities reform plan (Éducation Prioritaire) announced in March 2006 aimed at ensuring that all students succeed and preventing  students from dropping out.  The plan states that (1) schools should create contracts for success at the local level; (2) these contracts should be made with participation from parents and students; (3) students having difficulty must be addressed individually; and (4) students should receive help from individuals and programs outside of school.  Further in-depth articles can be found on the main “Éducation Prioritaire” site:
