Portland, OR - Portland Parent Union is a member of Dignity in Schools and is participating in the National Week of action on School Push-out. We will be doing information actions around the city and state. It is important to educate Oregonians on the National Platform on School Pushout. PPU is working on this campaign locally with other organizations to reduce the push-out disparities.

Chicago, IL – On Friday, October 7, at 11:30am, leaders from POWER-PAC, a citywide organization of African American and Latino parents, will gather for a bilingual rally at Wells High School to call on the Chicago Public Schools to reduce suspensions and expulsions in favor of positive alternatives. They have also invited Congressman Danny Davis and Alderman Walter Burnett to join in support of the event.

New York, NY - Throughout the week of October 1-8, 2011, thousands of parents, youth, and educators will participate in student-led actions and events in 27 cities to expose the school pushout crisis in our nation and advocate for the human right of every young person to a quality education and to be treated with dignity. The events and actions will include street theater, public forums, rallies, restorative justice trainings, and more.

Washington, DC – The Dignity in Schools Campaign (DSC) and the Alliance for Educational Justice (AEJ) commend Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on the announcement of the Supportive School Discipline Initiative.  The Initiative is an inter-agency effort to “address the ‘school-to-prison pipeline’ and the disciplinary policies and practices that can push students out of school and into the juvenile justice system,” according to a statement released by both agencies today.  DSC and AEJ call on both agencies and Congress to work with youth, parents, educators and communities to confront exclusionary discipline and school pushout at the federal level.

Atlanta, GA - On Tuesday, February 15, 2011, local community groups including students, parents, educators, and social justice activists will participate in an advocacy training session and visit with their state legislators to ensure that the educational rights of Georgia’s youth are protected.

New York, NY - The Dignity in Schools Campaign today praised House Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT) for introducing a landmark resolution on school pushout on Friday, December 17th. The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT), was inspired by the December 2009 Dignity in Schools Campaign National Resolution for Ending School Pushout, a call to action issued one year ago and signed by more than 200 individuals and organizations from all 50 states (more information below).

New York, NY - During the week of October 11-17, 2010, members of the Dignity in Schools Campaign, a national coalition of parents, youth, advocates and educators from around the country, are organizing actions in 15 cities to expose the school pushout crisis in our nation and advocate for the human right of every young person to a quality education and to be treated with dignity.
