Project Nia: Policing Chicago Public Schools: A Gateway to the School-to-Pipeline

This report details the Summer 2011 proposal for Chicago Public Schools to purchase $7M in surveillance cameras for 14 CPS high schools.  It is reported that cameras would be linked to police stations, first responders, transit and even include accessibility for direct feed to city officials’ cell phones.  The intent of the report is to create awareness of the proposal by gathering data and presenting it in a succinct format that will allow communities to galvanize the public to oppose CPS’ reliance on law enforcement.  This can be an effective informational strategy for local campaign use to make the case of Counselors Not Cops.
