Increasingly, “threat assessments” are being championed and in some cases mandated in schools, without any safeguards to protect the school community from further criminalization. This section recommends a holistic approach that seeks to get to the root causes of any serious safety concerns, and ensures that these processes are not used to further marginalize and isolate young people.
