Racial Justice NOW! parent, H.A. Jabar, participated in today’s press conference that announced the Bill Proposal for the removal of SROs in Montgomery County Schools. Jabar stated that he was in support of the bill and the removal of police from schools. Jabar thanked Councilman Jawando and Reimer for their leadership and said that after reading the four-page memo and bill, he came away with 3 main points:
- Bill 46-20 outlines shows and proves that the school to prison pipeline is live, well, and prospering in the Montgomery County Maryland school system.
- It as abundantly clear that the Montgomery County Maryland school system has Anti-Blackness embedded in its system, so much so that this can clearly be called “systemic racism”.
- The school district mirrors the state of Maryland which incarcerates more African American men than any other state in the nation.
Jabar gave his support for restorative justice and culturally relevant restorative practices.
