About the People’s Think Tank
The People’s Think Tank (PTT) is an intersectional movement space for re-imagining a radically democratic future, fiscally sponsored by the Schott Foundation for Public Education.
Members of the PTT network include 40+ grassroots organizations and activist scholars who organize parents, students and community members in low-income communities of color to address racial inequities and advocate for community-based solutions in public education and the range of intersecting issues that affect community wellbeing. The PTT’s purpose is to develop actionable strategies and solutions to strengthen grassroots educational and social justice movements by addressing an agenda set by students, families and organizers.
In 2020-2021, the PTT will prioritize creating a space for organizers and leaders to collect data and stories about the impact of COVID 19 on students, families, and communities as well as on organizing efforts and the educational justice movement, share lessons from our members’ responses in terms of demands and programmatic initiatives, and vision a liberatory future for young people and our communities.
Using community-engaged and participatory research processes, the PTT co-designs action research projects with participants, conducting interviews, literature reviews, and case studies of emerging models. The PTT co-produces academic and practitioner products in written, video and artistic formats to support PTT members and the wider social justice movement to implement new strategies in their organizing work. In 2020-2021, the PTT is starting an intersectional organizing research/outreach project.
